i'll start with the red that we use.
I have had one complaint about the tube not being natural since we changed from Black over 5 years ago, in the same time frame hundreds of people that commented how much they like the transparent red .
Tim, could it be that you don't get orders anymore from those wanting undyed because they know you only sell the dyed?

good luck with this
Tim, did you not see my pic from earlier in this thread. Here it is again no light inside, no back lighting, like is required for dyed G12.

Color is the least important spec. (Natural or white fill are most universal)
Quality is most important. (Weave, surface, and tolerances).
Then stock availability in most common sizes. (Built up over time).
Price will follow once production costs are known. (Safety first!)
This is a lot of work and investment. Good luck, Tim!

I don’t give a hoot what color it is, just knowing that my order will be fulfilled is enough to make this acquisition great news!
The red is super cool looking though Tim. 😁
Good point. I don't care either just as long as you can readily see thru it, but every dyed glass I have purchased was dyed for a reason, to make it as opaque as possible. Luckly when I had to purchase from CW I got what I ordered.

Agreed, the color has nothing to do with, except that the use of dyes usually makes the glass less translucent. So, to your point, if safety is the most important concern, then bonds and content you can see thru the glass, makes any dyed glass potentially less safe. Dyeing also hides imperfections that would otherwise be visible in the tube.

Or anyone else on this thread (or off) that has told you they would prefer undyed. Reminds me of a Henry Ford quote that is probably misattributed... “Any color the customer wants, as long as it’s black.”
just like i said in post #50 and #73
It's going to be available, but not our normal stock.

I am currently moving and did not have a chance to reply. I am one of the customers who only wants natural color fiberglass. I agree it is pre mature but I can give my two cents as something to consider.

I view the dye as completely unnecessary and I avoid it when possible.

1. I worry the dye could add some toxicity or carcinogens to any already precarious material from a health and safety angle. I try to wear PPE but it is far from perfect so why introduce extra hazards.

I understand the dye might be the least dangerous ingredient in a tube but still, why add it? (If you could disclose what the dye is or provide an MSDS that would alleviate my concern.)

2. The dye could weaken the resin if not added correctly. It’s another ingredient that needs to be “done right”.

3. It adds mess. When I clean up from a project I often use solvents and the dye leaves nasty stains.

This is just my opinion and none of this is a show stopper for me. I wish you luck in getting the equipment up and running and excited for your success.

*shrug* If I don't like the color it comes in, I just paint it, and I never buy rocket tubes assuming that I'm going to be able to see the inside easily.

I could see myself ordering a special color once or twice if it's available, but I'm not going to have much more than a bit of disappointment if it turns out it doesn't make sense to offer it. I would like a blue fiberglass rocket one of these days but if it doesn't happen, it is what it is.

Yes-yes, keep the red you have. Just like the Journey song says, "Don't stop-don't stop believing".

I gave some practical reasons why I prefer no dye in post 76. My request is simple. Simply leave the dye out….
I have no problem with your perceived practical reasons, as they are your opinion, just as my preference for the current translucent red tubing is my opinion. That's the reason I did not see a reason to respond to your post in the first place.👍

The most important thing is that the process is something that you enjoy doing. Unlike many businesses, the best rocketry companies are run by enthusiasts who have been doing it for years. Continue having fun with it and we all benefit!

My reasons are more theoretical than perceived. Except for causing stains which are “real”, I have no evidence the dye causes any harm. I am in a position of ignorance and maybe it is a functional part of the resin. I doubt that though and suspect it is an aesthetic additive which to me only has a downside.
Maybe Tim can comment more and give some information.
