I don't suppose you get Cicadas in the desert? I did not know you had Mallard Ducks there. Of course a Casino in Vegas even has Flamingos in their artificial rain forest surrounding the pools.

We are going to be getting Cicadas this year again, and with them come their predator, the Cicada Killers.

As for your Gas issue, I only have had "Gas Station Shoe" and it was on my way to work. Needless I had an aroma around my work station there for awhile.
No Cicadas. Thankfully. There is a duck pond about 5 miles from me. A big one too. About an acre surrounded by large trees.

Today after sunset I uncovered some pop ups that were under 4" to 5" of pine needles.

what am i doing instead of rockets... : stressing

my wife and i have a 40' montana 5th wheel.. this said you've gotta have a big boy truck to pull that heavy beast.. not some measly 1/2 ton.. but either a 3/4 or full ton pickup with the 6.6 or 6.7 v8 turbo diesel.

check engine light came on our '18 F250.. come to find out it's some sort of fuel injector rod.. and a heavy price tag to fix.. and without the extended service policy we'd be out over 1400 dollars... of which i have a pay about a 1/3rd. This and in 8000 miles out extended service will end. i've checked and found that i can get extended service for the powertrain, but not the electrical.

so.. we're on the hunt.. i did find a new '23 F250 Lariat (which is the currently trim model we have). of course there not cheap by any means, but can't figure we're out on the road and the 'other side' fuel injector rod goes out and were sittin' for almost 2 weeks waiting for the part and installation of the part.

SOOO, supposed to go to LDRS and the stress of the final build of the LOC 4" Nike, then color coat, complete the build for my ET Quantum, and finalize the DD for the Zephyr...

is that enough stress?

I've mentioned many times about the speeds we drive here. I'm sure those of you that live in densely populated areas, like the East Coast, Think driving at the speeds we drive are crazy and dangerous. Saturday on the way back to Pahrump I thought I would take some pictures of the road I drive back to Pahrump on. I'll try to comment for each picture again. But it hasn't worked in the past.

1st pic. This is part of Red Rocks. This is before the pass. It's the only curvy part of the road.
2nd pic. This is after the pass. The road is straight for 10 miles then there is the only curve on the road.
3rd pic. This is after the curve. the road is straight for 25 miles. The traffic is typical. Very light.
4th pic. This a little farther along.
5th pic. Coming into Pahrump. The highway changes from two lanes in each direction to one in each direction.
6th pic. I turn onto this road from the highway going home. It's straight for 12 miles.
7th pic. BMS. 5 minutes from our house.
8th pic. Last road before I turn onto the street we live on. It's straight all the way to the mountains.
9th pic. Across the street from our house.
10th pic. Our little oasis in the desert. 1 acre with about 9000 square feet of grass and about 100 tress and shrubs.
Now you can see why we drive the speeds we do. Straight roads for miles and very little traffic.20240518_104317[4790].jpg20240518_105453[4791].jpg20240518_105804[4792].jpg20240518_110005[4813].jpg20240518_110551[4814].jpg20240518_111146[4803].jpg20240518_112030[4795].jpg20240518_112304[4805].jpg20240518_112536[4806].jpg20240518_112625[4817].jpg

Thanks for all the pictures, I've been wanting to see just that for several years.

When I lived briefly in California, I had about 13 miles of that sort of road on my commute, between Adelanto and Palmdale. It was very easy to go 80 whether you intended to or not. Runway straight, very light traffic, and miles of desert in all directions.

On the other had, there was this one day that the SUV in front of me hit a tiny slick of black ice and very nearly died. I was, I don't know, maybe a hundred yards behind her (I suck at putting numbers to distances) and both going 75 or 80ish when I saw her start to spin, cross the road, bounce out of the ditch on the other side, getting air for a second and tilting to about 30°, then spin some more and end up on all four wheels on the shoulder on our side. I pulled over to check on her, and stood there holding her hand for 15 minutes while her heart slowed enough for her to drive on. If we'd been going 55, she'd have less than half the energy going into that spin. But of course, I was going 80 there again the next day.

There's a long straight stretch like that in the middle of MI's UP. [MI] Tech students tend to drive the Seney Stretch at ridiculous speeds. Tamarack swamp instead of desert. There's a small moose-hazard.

I worked a little bit on a small woodworking project- putting some stain on it. Then this afternoon I worked a little bit on a parking garage. It doesn't seem like I got very much accomplished today.

Yesterday first. I had to go to the lab for the craziest test I have ever had. First I blew into a special bag, then drank something and waited 15 minutes and then blew into another bag. After that went to Walmart for some bird seed. After I got home I looked at the lawn. It needed mowed 3 days ago. It was getting dark. I put my brightest headlamp on and mowed it in the dark. I've done that several times in the past. In the summer if you mow in the morning the lawn will burn. In the afternoon it's to hot.
Today I had another doctors appointment. I expressed my displeasure to her about my last appointment. I explained that if she had told me what the elevated wave meant I would have told her I already knew that. Had to go back to Walmart for the things I forgot yesterday. A tech from our internet provider came out to find out why we were having dropouts, pages wouldn't load or took a long time to load. He recalibrated here and someone in the office recalibrated their antenna. Kind of fixed. Yesterday my wife found a web site that talked about old plastic containers not being PBA free. She also found out that cat food interacts with plastic like the trashcan we kept it in. Then we started throwing things away. Some of the stuff we have had for 40 years. Tossed the cat food. She ordered a stainless steel can for the cat food. Today we are drinking out of Ball Jars.

I worked on a bandhall addition to a junior high school. Then went to the grocery store. Where did the rest of the day go?

who is in the band that gets you involved?
My company is at the bottom of the food chain of consultants they hire for this type project. In my company I'm at the bottom of the food chain- once all the work is done I look through it and try to find problems.

Recently a friend borrowed my two-stage vacuum pump to install his aircon system. It was not pulling very good vacuum. Tonight I pulled it apart to see if I could see what the problem is. So far nothing obvious, but one of the screws was not very tight. Will have more of a look over the next couple of days and reassemble.

I went through some vhs tapes that had the ink faded on the label. I found a couple of songs I played in churches back in 1996
