Went to Desert Radiology for a chest X-Ray. Came home and loaded the Explorer up with guns and stuff. I went to my shooting spot and sent some bullets toward California. Here are some pictures. From my table toward the target stand. The mountains are in California, about 3 miles away to the west. The snow capped peak is east. The last picture is looking north east. Over the small saddle and about 60 miles away is Groom Lake. Big doings in Pahrump this weekend. The Nugget 250 off road race is Saturday. It is sponsored by The Pahrump Nugget Casino. The race is all off road and is 475 miles. It ends in Fallon Nevada. By road it's 430 miles from here. It is held every year. The traffic today was two to three time normal. There are spectator areas along the route. Here are a few pictures of the race vehicles.20240418_170909[4691].jpg20240418_184221[4693].jpg20240418_173331[4690].jpg20240418_151733[4665].jpg20240418_151844[4666].jpg20240418_152047[4692].jpg

Yesterday, Sharon and I did a road trip with her recently repaired 1993 Pontiac TransAm. We drove up to my Sisters house in Cottonwood, AZ. It's about 115 miles North of Phoenix. Despite a fairly long construction zone on I-17, we made it up there in less than two hours. The car performed flawlessly, and I think I only scared Sharon a couple of times. It's amazing how many people reacted to our yellow high performance 30 year old "F" body Pontiac.

I was surprised by the number of vehicles that would move out of the fast lane as we approached.

Sorting through our entire house collection of stuff and applying a hard keep/yard sale/donate/trash filter. It is astounding the things you collect when you live in one house for 17 years. Quite a few "why did we move this here" items too.

This has been a multi week process, but it is nearing end.

Went down to the beach with my wife and mother-in-law. Nice day, quite a few boats out. The pond had a raft of turtles sunning, and there were several redwing blackbirds claiming territory by song.

The barge loaded with red containers below the mountain is one my company designed. I’ve done a few small jobs on it too. It’s headed to southeast Alaska.

Friday I hired a long ladder for access to my front gable. The FC sheeting was only nailed on and it had worked its way loose over the years. Managed to get up and fix it properly with tek screws. Carpenters put far too much faith in nails, I'm afraid.

One of the corbels had fallen off and needed to be screwed back on, and one was almost falling off. There were a couple of bits of red trim that were only nailed. I donned my heights harness and had my wife belay me out through window as I walked on the 34deg slope to get to the final pieces. Ladder wouldn't reach that far, partly due to the incoming three-phase power.

I thought about painting it while I was up there but my enthusiasm ran out. I will pay somebody else to do that.

Also did some remedial work on the carport gable. Shorter ladder for that one.

And patched some holes in some brickwork I have been meaning to get to for about ten years.

Other than that I was just doing other jobs around the house, getting ready for sale. Perfect weather for it.

Since somebody mentioned dreams upthread, I dreamt last night that I met Vincent Price. That's a worry. He's been dead since 1993  .

Got up and made biscuits (NOT cookies, for you British types!) and country ham slices to go on them. Just finished playing 2 hours of Turtle-WoW (a free classic World of Warcraft server) and now about to make a batch of Texas Kolaches/Klobasnek.

Completed the household purge with the attic. Over the process I think we threw out about 10 trashcans (weekly garbage truck pickup size), made 5 runs to Half price books, 2 full car loads to Goodwill, have a half garage full of yardsale stuff (gonna be priced to move!). Glad that is done.

Excellent! Now you can come and do our place before we have to move in a couple of months...

Packed. Flight is at 9:58am so I need to be there at 7:58 so I need to leave for PGH at 5:58 or maybe 5:30 so getting up at 5am. Eastern time. Which is 4am Prfesser'sBody'sTime (AKA Central time.)

Maybe I should get up at 4:30...no way, as Jim Bouton ("Ball Four") once said, I'm not even done throwing up at that hour! ;)

About 10 years ago we bought a 2-story house. There were a lot of things I couldn't do because of the height and even getting roof repairs done was a major problem so I decided no more 2-story houses for me if I can help it. My current house I could get on the roof if I need to although I won't unless there is an emergency.

My house before the 2-story house had a lot of our stuff in the attic. When we packed to move we found a lot of stuff in the attic that we have no idea why we saved it. We also found a lot of things we had stored that didn't fare too well in the heat and dust. We learned to think twice before saving things in our attic.

We have about 7.5 squares of storage under the roofline on our upper floor. That is 7.5 squares of storage we are losing in the new house as well as downsizing another 4.5 squares of liveable space. Definitely have been skinnying up with the stuff that was under there. Mostly sorted now.
