Adapter ring on Aero Pack tailcone retainer

What is 3/16" adapter ring on Aero Pack tailcone retainer for? It'd seem AeroTech casings fit snuggly without it. Is it meant to be used with some other brand(s) of casings/motors? The retainer came with a kit, without Aero Pack instruction sheet. Sadly, it doesn't seem Aero Pack has instruction sheets on their website for download anymore (at least I wasn't able to find them).

I have a 98-54 tail cone retainer and need the spacer for my Areotech/Dr. Rocket casings. Just assemble your rocket and check to see if needed when ready to launch. Nothing to worry about!

I think it applies when you use snap ring cases.
