My family has finally decided to purchase a dog after a long time of waiting. Golden retriever puppy, not old enough to be away from its mom yet but we will be able to bring him home soon. Don't know what to name him yet, suggestions are welcome!

Cute puppers... name suggestion: Clyde

Your profile reflects that you are in Oregon. The pup (beautiful by the way) is a Golden Retriever. Oregon's Gold Rush in 1852 was the result of the first significant deposits of gold being found in an area which is now know as...

"Sailors Diggings"

How about that, or an adaptation of?

Do you drink? A lot of booze names make good pet names. Talisker. Guinness.Tanqueray. Cointreau. Captain Morgan.

(Our current dog is Hokushika, named after a sake brewery.)

I think animals name themselves after you've had them a while. Most pets I've owned had an initial name (for the vet paperwork), but after some time, their names changed.

Tas became Helpful
Rosie became Friend
Smokie became Nuzzle, Snoop-Nuzzle or Snoop-Nuzzy-Nuz depending his mood

The only one that hasn't changed is our current cat, Olive. We didn't name her for a few weeks and the reason she ended up as Olive (well, she is a black cat) was that Snoop-Nuzzle loved to eat olives when my wife had them to put on pizza or a sandwich. He would lick Olive until she couldn't take it anymore pretty much from day 1, so the name found her.

You're right. They name themselves:

Big Boi became Booger.
Goliath became Goober.
Lagertha became Boo-Boo or Boo.
