well it has fins and took off like a rocket....
I'm making a laundry shelf for my Zephyr (4" dia, 38mm motor)) and am wondering if there are any rules of thumb, etc., for the amount of open area needed? I've searched and haven't found anything, but I may have missed it. I also searched baffle open area and found a couple references to having at least as much open area as the area of the MMT.
I am making the shelf out of 1/8" plywood and it will slide down to the top of the coupler in the airframe. I've drilled a bunch of holes in the plywood, and plan to coat it with epoxy before gluing it in.
Right now (roughly speaking) the area of the shelf is 12.6 in2 and it has 4.6 in2 of holes, so about 37% open. A 38mm MMT is about 1.8 in2 so the open area in the shelf is about 2.6X the MMT area. Is this a sufficient amount of open area?
I can easily make more open area but I am just wondering if it is necessary.
