Explain how to use this harness protector?

Picked this up at a winter event for our club. Want to use it on an old BSD horizon. It is a harness/SC protector. On one end it has a string on one side and button hole on other side. How do the string and button hole work/how do you use them? Thanks!

Slide protector over the shock cord down to the Bulkhead eye bolt. String goes through the eye bolt and tied off in the 'button' hole. This keeps the protector down near the motor ejection charge and ensure even the lowest part of the shock cord is protected.

That's what I thought, but wasn't sure if the thread was to hold on a kevlar chute protector. Going to put it on now!
