Somehow missed this model back in the day.
It's such an interesting design I decided that I'd downscale it for Micro Maxx flying.
Base on T3 and T5 Standard tubing the T2+ motor mount core tube worked out perfectly.
12 offset fins make the head-on view worth looking at. from the side this arrangement is lost by the distance between the fins.

I've left the PNC-5V Nosecone unpainted to allow future addition of a light weight high mcd LED and tiny Lithium battery for night flying;)
Being a pretty new member of the fleet i haven't had time to fly this one yet....perhaps if we get a break in the weather.

The ASM has always been one of my favorites. Sadly, I lost my beloved original way back in the day to an Evil Rocket-Eating Tree.

Cloned it a few years back, along with the decals. Not my best work, since it was one of my first clones, but still fun.

Also decided to upscale it based on a BT-60 main. The nosecone is not technically correct, but I'm learning to turn, and will be trying my hand at making a correct upscaled version of the BNC-50J.

First the original sized ASM:

Then the upscaled ASM:

And finally, both together:

This is the newer Estes release.

IMG_3884_CROP.jpg

The decals have a very thick clear coat, but do not release from the backing paper easily, and tend to break, especially the long stripes. I was going to paint the rocket red, but after seeing all of the other builds being painted in orange, I looked at the instructions, and it did state that orange was the appropriate color for the upper tube. I am posting a picture with the face card, and the spray paint caps for color reference.

The facecard is more of a red than a true orange.

It is a fun little build.
