Maybe his local club is only NAR affiliated, and as NeilW pointed out it doesn't really matter, reciprocity is a good thing in this hobby. Why didn't you join Tripoli?

Have you tried doing this with a small wood plane? It might save you some pain.Spent all afternoon trying to get these Black Brant XII fins to shape up and submit to 60 grit sandpaper. I can feel the arthritic hand pain comming on. This isn't my first attempt to get that elusive diamond cross-section. A hardwood core increases the challenge They're not great, but not awful either. I'm not sure if I am completely done shaping them. I'll look at them again in the morning.
Ooh, the 'Cuda. A fish that got away, for me; I had to sell the kit I had a score years ago.And I picked up a Cuda kit. I’ve been studying it a lot, and tonight I got out the new sheet of balsa a got to work.

Its still very light weight with the three plywood rings and the one paper ring. I actually have no clue what possessed me to do that... I just did! With that many centering rings on the motor tube- how many of them can you glue to the outer airframe and how do you do it? And if you put the motor tube in the airframe first how do you glue the fins to the inside structure?
I have pushed the motor tube partway into the body, blobbed some glue into the rear of the tube and then slid the motor tube all the way in. This gets some glue on the front of the middle ring. Then I glue the rear ring from the back and the front ring from the front. Its still very light weight with the three plywood rings and the one paper ring. I actually have no clue what possessed me to do that... I just did!
As for installing the fins, this bird will not see more than a H motor, so I will use epoxy to install the fins, and I will double butter them. The overall forces on this rocket wont be much, and so with fin root tabs epoxied in place, and good fillets on the outside, they will be strong.
