That's a good looking little V2!

I just finished this and will probably fly it on Saturday at the CMASS launch. The paint scheme is the third US V2 launch on May 10, 1946. Decals are from Excelsior.

Is it scratch or a kit?

Never mind. I see its an ASP

Looks nice.

Here is my LOC 7.5" V2 flying at MDRA. It was my level 2 rocket. Unfortunately it only made 3 flights before coming in ballistic. It missed London like most of the other V2s did as well.

My ASP V2 (see a few posts back) did not survive it's second flight. The chute lines tangled and the result was a dirty, dinged up nose and big dent in the body, presumably from the node cone punching a hole in it. At least I have the pictures to remember the happier days.

On a happier note, I plan to build a larger replacement.

Here's my Semroc V-2, painted similarly to White Sands round number 3, May 10, 1946. I thought the yellow and black would be fairly uncommon, but I see that it isn't. Very nicely done on all the others. This is nice flying rocket, it goes with me to most launches.

Our section has designated October as V2 Month. So, I'll be working on my second V2, a little larger than my first, to use 24 mm motors. I'll post pics when I finish.

My nephew Wes' ASP 24mm V-2. He did the camo paint job with an airbrush.

Here's my assortment.

A loc 7.5" V-2, 17 years old, ready to fly again tomorrow along with a mountainside 2.6" version, and flying 15 years ago on a J-415.

A 5.5" scratch build with hand built glassed cone, and honecomb alumunum fins flying on a J-415.

A 4" mountainside V-2 flying on an H-128

The V-2 rocket (German: Vergeltungswaffe 2, i.e. retaliation weapon 2), technical name Aggregat-4 (A4), was a ballistic missile that was developed at the beginning of the Second World War in Germany, specifically targeted at London and later Antwerp. The liquid-propellant rocket was the world's first long-range combat-ballistic missile and first known non-human-piloted artifact to achieve sub-orbital spaceflight. It was the progenitor of all modern rockets, including those used by the United States and Soviet Union's space programs. During the aftermath of World War II the American, Soviet and British governments all gained access to the V-2's technical designs and the actual German scientists responsible for creating the rockets, via Operation Paperclip, Operation Osoaviakhim and Operation Backfire.

The weapon was presented by Nazi propaganda as a retaliation for the bombers that attacked ever more German cities from 1942 until the end of the war.

Over 3,000 V-2s were launched as military rockets by the German Wehrmacht against Allied targets during the war, mostly London and later Antwerp. The attacks resulted in the death of an estimated 7,250 military personnel and civilians, while 12,000 forced labourers were killed producing the weapons.

Type: Scale
Recovery: Parachute
Stages: 1
Length: 14.125"/35.88 cm
Diameter: 1.637"/41.6 mm
Span:
Weight: 3.7 oz/105 gm

Mfg. Description: The V - 2 ("Vengeance Weapon 2") is perhaps the most famous, and certainly the most infamous, rocket ever built. Designed by Werner von Braun for the Nazi war effort during WWII, the V - 2 was the world's first large liquid-fueled rocket. Originally designated the A - 4, thousands were built by prisoners during the early 1940s. After the war, many captured V - 2s were flown by the U.S. as well as the Soviet Union. Despite its' horrific inception as a weapon of destruction, the V - 2 was the forerunner of all the large liquid-fuel rockets which were to follow.

Our most popular kit! Like our other V - 2 kits, this model has a pre-drilled balsa boattail & balsa nose cone, laser-cut basswood fins and is accurately scaled. Designed primarily to fly on D12 motors, it will also fly "outta - sight" on a composite E! Also flies great on 18mm Bs & Cs with adapter EA18/24 (not included).

Length: 11.4" (29.0 cm)
Diameter: 1.325" (3.4 cm)
Span: 4.0" (10.2 cm)
Weight: 3.7 oz/105 gm

Mfg. Description: The V-2 was introduced in 1965 in the Estes® 1966 Catalog. Based on the German A-4/V-2 designed in the 1940’s as a military missile, the Estes® V-2 was one of their first scale models. The V-2 was able to be built as a scale model or semi-scale model with larger fins for better stability. For many early rocket-eers, the V-2 was their first scale model. The V-2 was Estes® #K-22 and the original kit sold for $1.75.
The Semroc V-2 xKit™ is updated by using laser-cut fins including both the scale and semi-scale parts. The original balsa nose cone and boat tail dimensions and the original body tube sizes are used. A larger washer weight is provided for the semi-scale version.
Plans are not provided in this kit but they are avail-able are online at

Mfg. Description: One of the ADVANCED SERIES of kits, which include factory pre-slotted airframe and through-the-wall fin construction, the 3.9 V2 is our sport scale version of the infamous WWII German V2 rocket. This boat tail kit comes standard with a 38mm motor mount but flies great on F50 and G motors using an optional MMA-2 adapter. The 3.9 V2 is a great performer on a variety of motor packages through Level 1 - For Level 2 motors and large Level 1 motors change the launch lugs to rail buttons to eliminate "rod whip" due to its short height and wide motor mount location. Parachute Recovery.

All LOC/PRECISION "PK-XX" kits include heavy duty airframe and motor mount tubes, high-grade precision-cut plywood fins, centering rings, rip-stop nylon parachute or streamer, nylon elastic shock cord and mount, launch lug, polypropolene nose cones and instructions.
