My KING BOB MINION rocket build log: well the progress has slowed down due to a new puppy in the house. I’m not sorry about this! 🥰 I got the first round of filler primer sanded down and identified some pinholes which I filled with glazing putty. I’m really happy with the results and the fillets look great. I’ll just need a light secondary primer coat next with a 400 grit wet sand and it’ll be ready for the color coat. 🥰🚀🚀🚀

Got home and two boxes arrived, delivered by UPS: One was a 5.5" diameter payload by by LOC, the other an Estes PSII Nike Smoke. Waiting on the tubular glass and heat shrink tubing from Soller for the 'Smoke. (Probably should get a set for the payload bay, as well, since the rocket it's going on, my Gulf Warlok, already has a composite sleeve on it.)

Opened and built the motor mount / centering rings for my Big Daddy. Also chopped the bottom off the nose cone to install a bulkhead, just need to cut one.

Also purchased a 24 pack of 1/2 A3-4Ts for all the Mosquitoes and Swifts floating around the house.

You must have some huge mosquitos that you can catch and strap a motor to. I killed a mosquito in Florida that was 2" long. The size of a small bird. Good luck with the flight.

Would love to catch a launch up close someday

Paint! Continuation of yesterday. Deuces Wild 29, Micro HoJo, and Trifecta all got color. BOSS got a little sanding and another thin coat, since white is its final color. Der Squared Max also has been painted after getting some extra filleting yesterday.

Wyrmling's repair is now complete and it has been returned to flight status.

Vac-bagging more Swarm fins! Two more done, two to go for a full set. (Plus two more for "extras" since I have eight plywood fins. I'll pick the best six fins for the build.)

SwarmFinsVacBagging.jpeg

Lessons learned:
1) Carefully cut the pieces BEFORE you apply resin. This includes peel-ply and breather cloth.
2) Put the bottom layer of breather cloth in BEFORE you slide the part in the bag. This keeps it from bunching up when you place the part.

Tomorrow, we'll de-bag and 'glass two more fins.

2nd coat of primer done on the Zeus last night. Mostly finished with the RingHawk glider (circa 2003 Sport Rocketry magazine article). One major deviation....I decided not to go with the bent balsa rings. I had a length of 4" LOC body tube from a prior scratch build and chose to use that for the rings instead. All that's left is to trim the glide and install the stops for the forward ring. Should be interesting.

Completed a 24mm egg lofter. Weighs 4.7 grams. I don’t think it will be a good performer. I think I will be getting fin flutter with the .010 G10 fins.

Built an AT K540 Metalstorm for the first flight of my "New Bunny", a scratch built 54mm almost minimum diameter rocket with an Acme fincan. Then I went out and put a coat of Testors "Electric Pink" lacquer on the fincan and nosecone:

Then I ground down some cracked fillets on "R2-V2", a Wildman 4" V2 that had a hard landing at Airfest last year:

Later I hosted @tsbooska for a mixing session. We mixed 5100 grams of Don Alexanders slow white and cast 8 75mm grains and 4 54mm grains:

I'm really liking the 12 quart mixer I picked up last year!

Charging batteries, checking supplies, getting packed for Argonia in the morning. It looks like a *great* day - low winds, temps starting in upper 60's and ending in mid 90's. I've only got one rocket/motor to launch, but it should be fun (my Design #2 on an H999)..

Check on the SpaceX launch schedule. Then fly into Orlando. Stay in Coco Beach. Take a half hour drive north to any one of the m20220918_201900[229].jpgany viewing areas and enjoy.

Yeah I Flew A Rocket Twice Yesterday XIV. Scratch built rocket to fly a tiny camera on the Quest C18-6W and D20-6W motors. It looks like it will make it over 700 feet. I almost lost this one twice on the same day!

I flew two rockets at Thunderstruck 2024 in Indiana yesterday. I flew my 5' long by 6"diameter Crayon rocket to 2800' on a Cesaroni J355 Red Lightning. Good flight, easy recovery. For my 2nd flight I flew my 4 fin Mac Performance Black Fly one a Cesaroni I140 Skidmark for a less than optimal flight. I goofed, should of used a motor with more power. No damage, it will fly again. Greg Olson

Update photo of the 6" green crayon rocket. The flight tore off about 90% of the paper wrap. It's almost nude now. Greg Olson

Beautiful day at Argonia. Clear skies, wind a bit more than forecast, but died in the afternoon. Temps started out about 70, but by the time we left, had gotten to near 90. It's always good to visit with old friends, and make new ones. Got to talk with lots of folks, including a few TRFers. I had a bit of a problem with my one launch. I launched my Design #2 on an H999. The up part was great. The down part... let's just say that "someone" has never before forgotten to arm the altimeter, and never will again*. Once is enough! About the only things of value to recover were the rail buttons and the kevlar harness. Everything else broke on impact from 4000 feet. I was getting tired of that rocket, anyway...

* Warp9 motor, no ejection, no "saved by the motor"

Mixed two more batches of propellant today, both "Not Your Wimpy Red" formula. I started out with an 8 quart batch, about 3200 grams. It made ten 4" 54mm grains, three 3" 54mm grains and one 5" 75mm grain.
My mixing buddy (tsbooska) showed up and we mixed a 12 quart batch (5200 grams) that made nine 5" 75mm grains and one 3" 54mm grain.
Then we built a 75/6000 motor with some of the DAW I cast Friday. Sharon came out and helped with the casting, it was a circus! All three of us dancing around the vibration table, loading casting tubes!
Really fun day, but I'm beat now.
