I’m not a fan off the z clips either for the reasons stated. Another no one mentioned is they rust and just look nasty on a nicely finished rocket.

I really like the Z clips, but you are right that they look nasty when they get rusty. High temp paint can help a bit.

One would think that there would be a plethora of stainless steel versions out there since they're nothing more than table top fasteners, but that's not the case. This may be the closest thing, in stainless, that I can find right now.

But, on amazon you can find large bags of these clips and if appearance of the clips bother you, then you can swap them out every launch :)
 
Those clips are HUGE for a rocket.
Nothing wrong with clips provided. I've got clips on nearly all of my Mpr/Hpr rockets. Only a couple have fancy
shmancy retainers :) Mirror clips from the hardware store work great.
