Here's the latest downsize carded rocket -
The Estes A-20 DEMON

This one uses Greg Poehlein's method of printing the "skin" and wrapping it around the BT-20 mainframe.
The fins are 3-ply 110 lb. cardstock, sandwiched around cereal box cardboard.
The nose cone is available from Semroc, it's #BNC-20AM.
I did my best to replicate the chrome wraps and fin plates using lots of gray tones.

It stands 14 1/2" tall and flys with 13mm or 18mm engines.

The PDF is available HERE
at Wayne Hill's Rocketry Blog. Scroll down almost to the bottom.
Or, email me at [email protected] and I'll send you the PDF -It's free!

If you''ve never built a carded rocket, you should give it a try.
No painting, except for the nose cone.
Easy, cheap and a great afternoon project.

The build thread (complete directions for the carded build) has been started on my rocket building blog at:

Looks great. I just got around to tacking two fins on my BT55 cardstock Phoenix w/canted 13mm motors. Forgot how much I like cardstock modeling. Can't wait to fly it at GHS next month.

The BT-20 size is pretty nice, and this would be a fun project with a kid who does not have much painting experience. A great looking finished product, and I'd guess sized about right. It is not so tiny as to be tricky to handle, compared to a BT-5 or smaller cardstock model.

Definitely more interesting than starting out with a ready-to-fly.
