Yikes... After looking at the other Goblins in this gallery I realized that I was supposed to paint one of the fins black. So here it is fixed and up to spec....

DSCF6002 (2).jpg

I had an orignal Goblin back in 1975. Launched it once and found it a year later.

In the first picture, My two lovely daughters pose with my scratch built clone, stuffed so full of cheese the nose cone barely fits - and flown on an E15-7 at ECOF 2011. Launched once and never seen again. :(

The second picture shows a BT60 upscale, and two BT80 2x upscales. The yellow one has a 24mm motor tube and surface mounted balsa fins. The green one is 29mm with TTW lite ply fins.

Also on the cutting mat are two BT55 cones - soon to be two more clones. :D

Love this rocket, my brother and I built four of these, but only one survived...Never lost one just got put away and ruined...Anyway, this is a clone which hasn't flown yet.

After much frustration with the launch lug and cracking paint I got my Goblin done and it flew it's first flight on a B6-4. It flew great! :D

After fixing the spray paint problems I found that little green goblins were trying to escape out from the inside!:y:

Leading Edge Micro Goblin (LE-05) Basic Information.

Leading Edge Rocketry

MODEL NAME: Micro Goblin Also known as:

NUMBER: LE-05

Introduced:
Final Year:
Designer:

Type: Sport, Downscale
Motor Mount: 1x6mm
Recovery: Streamer
Stages: 1
Length: 4.85"
Diameter: 0.448"
Span:
Weight: 2.5 grams

Mfg. Description: As with all of our Micro Classics, these kits feature precision laser cut basswood fins, hard fiber centering rings, white kraft body tubes with a glassine outer wrap and machined balsawood nose cone. The Micro Goblin is a great flyer with all the style and flight characteristics of a larger model but with the added benefits that come from a Micro Maxx™ powered rocket, smaller launch site, lower cost per flight and lower altitude which means you may be able to fly your Micro Classics on days that the weather won't permit larger flights. All you will need in addition to your regular ground support and lunch supplies is a smaller launch rod like our GS-0001 Launch rod and adapter. We also offer complete Micro Classics launch sets. Click here for more information. The Micro Goblin is rated Skill Level Three. We recommend that the builder have some previous model rocket experience due to the smaller parts of a Micro Classics. Would anyone happen to have a fin template for the original model #1255? This would help immensely with my scratch build... now that the balsa nose cone nightmare is out of the way! :)

Nikon pictures to 2 2015 083.jpgThis one is a BT-60. The nose is from Semroc, and the decals from Excelsior. The decals are scaled to a BT-60, but I think I made the fins a little too big. The picture is at MDRA.

This has been around for almost a year and still hasn't flown. It's been to two cornfield launches, but the winds and 29mm power didn't seem like a good mix.

Goblin Black Fin - Gloss Run.jpgGoblin 1.jpg

Finished up one of my winter projects - LOVE the SEMROC Goblin!

Used Tamiya Camel Yellow spray (TS-34) for the yellow - I like the darker tint for the Halloween theme.

Do need some advice though, my Gloss Coat ran/spotted my black fin (See pic). Any recommendations on how to remedy this? Any easy fixes? Thanks in advance!

Some very careful wet sanding with 600 grit wet or dry paper and a small home made sanding block will likely level the run in the clear coat with a bit of work. The block, if carefully used, helps prevent burning through the clear and the black in other places.

If you have 800-1000 grit, even better. Takes longer but less chance of burn through.

Then you can re-coat the fin with clear.

If you to burn through the black when sanding, you would obviously have to refinish the fin in black and clear.
