13mm Mini-manche-3's have been around for a good long time...
They like the standard commanche-3 REALY get up there on A10-0, A10-0, A3-6T combos Be sure you have PLENTY of extra sets of eyes on all the stages if you plan on having any chance of a second flight.

A10-0's are better boosters then many give them credit for. Not that I'd use one to boost a solar flare mind you but they are great little motors.

I know we've had other threads recently on flying the Commanche-3 with Photos. Why didn't one of "THOSE" ESTES Commanche-3 models start this Gallery?

Folks I'm sorry the preceeding photo is my weak attempt at a humerous 13mm 3 stager sometime in 1997..... About 1.75X downscale of the Great flying but difficult to recover ESTES Commanche-3, it has had a couple very hairly way high all up flights which I'm happy to say with the help of Many, many club members has always returned all three stages.....after a very long sustainer recovery walk.

Below is my REAL Commanche-3... in it's first and third and forth Flight Fluorescent Green/yellow colors. As well as a few shots of intervening sustainer and second stage replacements in Fluroescent RED. Both Stages of which were lost on it's first (second overall) Flight. I always get back the D12 booster first stage.. but man those second and sustainer stages can be a problem even on HUGE fields. I finally decided that D12-0, B6-0, A8-5 or 1/2A6-4 combinations were the best way to "nearly" ensure at least 1st and Sustainer recovery. Oh I also added a 72" x 1" fluro. Green and Yellow surveyors tape streamers to the sustainer to help....

I ordered mine through E-Bay.....when it arrived, the 2 main BTs were crushed. I replaced them with 2 24" BT-50s so it is about a foot longer.

Just finished mine today. Testors Hugger Orange lacquer over Rustoleum white 2x primer with Future finish. Built with extra length on the boosters to accommodate motor retainers and gap staging. Also TTW fins on the 2nd and 3rd stages. I've wanted this rocket since seeing it in an Estes catalog as a kid an I think it turned out nicely. Has one good flight as a two stage on B6/B4.

Here is mine right after the clear coat dried...

Launched the next day, flew great, almost, had a bit of an issue with the second stage separating so there was a some burn through. Fixed now, replaced the body tube and have her re painted, just missing the green decal, but I am thinking of just matching the color and airbrushing that back on to keep it original.

I'd like to know how that goes, these aren't the first boosters on mine and I'm sure they won't be the last- apparently mine are stable with their extra length.

I sure will, had to replace my compressor today, so I plan on hitting the hobby store Saturday for supplies, I neglected to mention I just finished the mini comanche3 so this is actually a perfect chance to match up the paint for both and get those green strips back on the ship!!

I don't mind repairs when they are like this, also allows for a bit of customizing if you feel the need...lol

Here's a Comanche 3 that I built circa 2004, before I found it necessary to fill tube spirals!

I finally built mine, but still have to attach the streamers and drill the vent holes Fred suggested. Then we shall see how it flies.

I decided to go with a deep red instead of the orange, and I accidentally threw away the "United States" decal. Those white decals blend into the backing too well.
