When is the State of the Union?
"The Russians, you know, that Putin over there, he's.....um........well, that thing, you see, they launched.....um.....the thing. The boom thing. I think, maybe one day we could.....um......I talked to Anwar Sadat yesterday and he said that it's bad for business. Where's my ice cream? Mufumgumbo, and then gosh darn it."

Reportedly, the US has exploded 5 nuclear bombs in high altitude tests.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starfish_Prime

Starfish Prime caused an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) that was far larger than expected, so much larger that it drove much of the instrumentation off scale, causing great difficulty in getting accurate measurements. The Starfish Prime electromagnetic pulse also made those effects known to the public by causing electrical damage in Hawaii, about 900 miles (1,450 km) away from the detonation point, knocking out about 300 streetlights,[1]: 5  setting off numerous burglar alarms, and damaging a telephone company microwave link.[6] The EMP damage to the microwave link shut down telephone calls from Kauai to the other Hawaiian islands.[7]

The flash created by the explosion as seen through heavy cloud cover from Honolulu, 900 miles (1,450 km) away

Where's Gary Seven when you need him?

He is on a side gantry of the launch tower trying to do something with what looks like an Agena Sustainer

It was a pilot for another one of Gene's TV shows that never happened.

The Blond Young Lady did plenty of other TV shows and Movies, at the time she was one of the "Laugh In" girls.

Edit: later she did a B&W movie with a mad Doctor with a hump back assistant that used lots of Lighting for power

No, absolutely not cool. The militarization of space is something the superpowers have actively sought to avoid. The Outer Space treaty specifically forbids stationing nuclear weapons in space.

We have no need for Kessler Syndrome or anything else that would make space access more difficult.
Treaties can be broken.

My money is that it is a big nothing-burger.

Remember, it's an election year—time for the federal government to amplify fear. (See my sig line....)
And of course Party #2 will say that Party #1 should have done something about this... even though whatever technology this is all about has probably been in development for 20 years, during both of their administrations.

5 will get you 10 that whatever this is about is something WE either have too, or can get relatively quickly.

Oh and Gary always had that black cat with him he would talk to...

Treaties can be broken.
I’m aware. The United States broke every single treaty signed with indigenous nations as the country expanded westward and eventually destroyed or dismembered them.

The Outer Space Treaty is a bit different though, it’s codified into international law and violating it will serve only to:

1.). Spread the most blunt instruments of military conflict to where they have no business being.

2.). Isolate Russia further.

That second one is of particular interest to me; a voluntarily isolated but nuclear-armed state will certainly become impoverished but it will also be very difficult for the international community to police. The latter is something that Russia very desperately wants.

Of course, if true, the other powers will have to respond in some way. Nobody is going to leave unchallenged a credible ability to rain down nuclear Armageddon from orbit.

What about all the kinetic weapons orbiting in space? I.E. just drop a Rod... These were used to get around the Nuke issue.

Any use of nuke Device is going to cause 5 seconds and counting huge problems in many novels.

If from orbit or ICBM or IRBM it's no different of a threat.

Yes both parties will agree that we have to transfer great large wheelbarrows of middle class struggling taxpayers money to Raytheon, General Dynamics, Northrup-Grumman, Boeing and Lockheed STAT!

(I am sure they got the phone call from their masters they are not doing a great job this year getting their promised pork to them).

I'll place a bet on "Naive, wet behind the ears politician with no knowledge of history freaks out about something they don't realize we did fifty years ago.".

(context: I've been watching way too much habitual linecrosser)

It all started with Sputnik. Nothing new here. That's what the space race was all about.

Space junk.

Numerous videos recorded early Monday morning captured the unusual phenomenon in the country.

According to experts from the University of Costa Rica (UCR), what many people were able to see was space debris. In other words, man-made artificial objects that are in orbit, for example, old satellites or discarded rocket stages. These usually come from past space missions or accidents. After they remain in space, they may return to Earth, and as they enter the atmosphere, they burn up.

Eric Sanchez, director of the Planetarium of the University of Costa Rica, explained that what was captured in the videos was debris in the process of disintegration as it enters the atmosphere.

Just as the house is ready to vote on a national security supplementary funding bill, there is a giant super scary new threat that no one can talk about.

Ahhahahahahahahahhahahaha

Pull my other leg, that one is sore.
LOL. Not one dime for our "security"

A large enough nuke exploding directly over the USA would fry over 90% of all of the electronics in its line of site. Power, cars internet, phones, anything with a chip in it would die with absolutely no warning.
